As a committee member of the National Forum for H@H I have responsibility for updating the Forums website.

I work as a Sister for the St Giles Hospice at Home Service alongside two colleagues, co-coordinating and providing the care for patients who wish, with the carer’s support, to remain in their home until they die.

During my general nurse training I became interested in palliative care and twelve months after qualifying secured a post as a staff nurse on the inpatient unit at St. Giles. After fifteen years of working various shifts in all departments (and three children) I applied to join the new and constantly developing Hospice at Home service. Initially appointed as a staff nurse, I was promoted to sister six months later.

Whilst attending the NFFH@H annual conference in 2007 with my manager when a request was made for new committee member she suggested she nominate me. Despite my initial reluctance it has been a valuable learning experience and has given me a chance to promote a service I feel passionate about.
